This is achieved by using Kampala/Entebbe – Masaka – Mbarara – Kabale road with a stopover at the equator, Igongo cultural center, having beautiful views of the country, hills, rivers, lakes, and smiling people. People from Kigali can access Four Gorilla Lodge using Katuna border in Kabale or Cyanika border in Kisoro and reaching the lodge takes only 4-5 hours. Luxury travelers can fly to Kisoro airstrip using scheduled flights at Entebbe international airport or Kajjansi airstrip taking only 2 hours and from here you will be driven to the lodge by our well-trained guide.

Spending time with mountain gorillas in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park (Gorilla trekking)

Four Gorillas Lodge is located a few kilometers from the starting point of gorilla trekking at Rushaga sector so tourists staying at this lodge can have a gorilla trekking safari in the park. Mountain gorillas are the closest relatives to human beings so having a stay in this park gives you an opportunity to be around these apes for 1 hour. Rushaga is one of the trekking sectors that are in Bwindi and this sector we find over 7 habituated mountain gorilla families namely Kahungye gorilla family, Kutu gorilla family, Bweza gorilla family, Nshongi gorilla, Bikingi gorilla family, Mucunguzi gorilla family, and Busingye gorilla family. To trek any of these mountain gorilla families, you will need a valid mountain gorilla trekking permit from Uganda Wildlife Authority at a fee. Trekking starts with a briefing at Rushaga park offices after which the trekkers lead the tourists into the jungle to look for the assigned mountain gorilla family. During the trekking, the trekkers have chances of meeting different park animals, birds, and tree species. After meeting the mountain gorillas, you will be given a maximum of 1 hour to be around these human close relatives as you learn about their habits, watch them play as you take photos.

Spending 4 hours with mountain gorillas

The mountain gorilla habituation experience in Bwindi is an activity that comprises tourists being around endangered mountain gorillas for up to 4 hours as they make them get used to human presence. Gorilla habituation at Rushaga sector can only be done when you have acquired a permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority and it all starts with a briefing at the park headquarters after which a group of rangers and guides lead you to the semi habituated mountain gorilla family with opportunities of meeting different park animals, birds and tree species. Once you have found the mountain gorilla family, you will be allowed to be with them for 4 hours with chances of making them get used to the human presence around them, learning about their habits, watching them play, and taking photos.

The Batwa lived, hunted small animals, and gathered fruits and honey in the forest before the government evicted them to protect the endangered mountain gorillas in the park as well as the forest. This cultural experience will be led by a Batwa guide through the forest as they show you how they used to survive in the park, hunt using bows and arrows, make fires using sticks, use trees as local medicine, and much more. They will at the end sing for you, dance and tell you stories of long ago and you will see how they live in their grass thatched houses as well as taste their local foods.
