Getting to Bunyonyi Overland Resort
Travelers can access Bunyonyi overland resort by using road transport from Entebbe/Kampala – Masaka – Mbarara – Kabale- to the lodge taking about 8-9 hours while those from Kigali can access the lodge using Katuna or Cyanika birder taking only 4-5 hours. Travelers can also use air transport from Kajjansi airstrip or Entebbe international airport to Kisoro airstrip where they will have a short drive to the lodge. If you are planning to visit the lodge using air transport, we advise you to book the flight in advance.
Activities to do while having a stay at Bunyonyi Overland Resort
Travelers staying at Bunyonyi overland resort can be able to trek mountain gorillas in the Ruhija and Rushaga sectors since it’s the nearest to the lake. To trek mountain gorillas in Rushaga while staying at Bunyonyi overland resort, you will have to inform your tour operator to book for you a gorilla trekking permit in advance to avoid inconveniences most especially in the dry season. Bunyonyi overland resort is just a 15 minutes drive to the Rushaga sector. You will have to wake up early morning to join other trekkers at the briefing center in Rushaga where you will be taught about the rules and regulations of the trekking activity after which ranger guides will lead you into the jungle to search for these gentle apes. during the search, you will have opportunities of seeing some of the park animals, birds, and different tree species. when you locate the mountain gorillas, you will be given a maximum of 1 hour to be around these gentle apes watching them do daily activities, learn their habits and take photos.
Seeing mountain gorillas for more than 1 hour in Bwindi
Guests at Bunyonyi overland resort can go for gorilla habituation experience in Rushaga or Nkuringo sectors of the park which are 15 minutes and 45 minutes drive respectively from the lodge. Gorilla habituation in the whole world is done in the above sectors between gorilla families Bushaho and Bikini. You will need to wake up very early in the morning to meet other trekkers for a briefing about the dos and don’ts of the gorilla habituation activity. After this, a group of trekkers, rangers, conservationists, and researchers lead the trekkers into the jungle to search for the mountain gorilla habituation undergoing habituation. During the search, the trekkers have chances of meeting different park animals like the buffaloes, elephants, giant forest hogs, duikers, monkeys, birds, and different tre3e species. on locating the mountain gorilla family undergoing habituation, the trekkers are given up to 4 hours to be around them as they make them get used to human presence, watch them do daily activities, and take photos.

Lake Bunyonyi is the second deepest lake in Africa so if you are planning to swim out into the lake, you need to use some safety precautions such as a nearby canoe, or a buddy system.
