Bwindi impenetrable forest national park

Bwindi impenetrable forest national park is among the tropical rain forests in Uganda with an annual temperature range of a maximum of 20-27oc to a minimum of 7-15oc. This park has annual rainfall ranges from 1,400-1,900 millimeters. Its heavy rains climax is around March-April and September-November.

Bwindi Impenetrable forest national is well known as the best national park in the world for gorilla trekking because it has more than half of the world’s remaining Mountain Gorilla population. Habinyanja trail – This trail takes 4-6 hours which takes you through the past river Munyanga and this trail is mostly used by tourists after trekking Habinyanja gorilla family.

Kashasha river trail– To complete this trek, it takes only 5-7 hours, Kashasha river trail runs through Buhoma and Nkuringo sectors of the park.

Muzabajiro trail- This trail is an exciting trail with beautiful views of Virunga and western valley. It covers only 6 kilometers and it gives you a chance to see beautiful ferns, peaks of Virunga volcanoes and a lot of bird species.

Batwa Trail

At first Batwa people were living in Bwindi forest but later they were chased away and the forest turned into a game reserve to a national park. These people are now living outside the forest and they are also known as Batwa pygmies. These people are regarded as the keepers of the forest and hunter-gathers who mostly depending on gathering fruits and hunting wild animals, they also still practicing their ancient lifestyle. Gorilla trekking sectors in bwindi forest national park.

Gorilla trekking is the process of moving from one area to another searching for the mountain gorillas and after meeting these primates you’re supposed to spend only 1 hour and interact with them. Ruhiija sector– The sector is found in Kabale district and it is the nearest sector to other sectors if one is traveling from Kampala.

Buhoma sector Buhoma is found in the northern part of Bwindi impenetrable forest national park in Kanungu district. It is the first sector formed for tracking than other sectors.

Nkuringo sector– This sector is located in the Kisoro district. It has the biggest number of habituated gorilla families than other sectors.

How to get bwindi impenetrable forest national park. 

This park can be reached from any part of Uganda and northern Rwanda. From the capital city of Uganda that is Kampala, it takes about 8-9 hours by road while using Masaka highway to Mbarara, to Kabale, Kisolo, and Kanungu. The driving time depends on the gorilla tracking sector of the park a tourist likes to go to. Bwindi impenetrable forest national park can also be accessed from Rwanda and it takes about 4 hours to reach Bwindi forest from various border posts. Air transport is also available with flights departing from Entebbe to the Kihihi airstrip which is nearby two sectors is Buhoma and Ruhiija. Another airstrip can be accessed from kisoro which is close to Nkuringo and Rushaga sectors. Recently there is another flight formed which connects from Masai mara national reserve to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park by air Kenya.

Procedures of gorilla tracking in bwindi impenetrable national park.

All gorilla trekking destinations have got procedures but this depending on the gorilla tracking sector one is interested to track from. If you like to do gorilla trekking in any sector of Bwindi impenetrable forest national park, you must have a gorilla tracking permit issued by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). The price of gorilla trekking permits depends on the residential status and nationality. Gorilla trekking permits in Bwindi costs 700 USD for foreign nonresidents, 600 USD for foreign residents, and 250,000 citizens of East African. How long does gorilla trekking take in Bwindi forest?

Gorilla trekking in this forest can be carried out any time between 30 minutes from 3-4 of the whole day. However, the gorilla tracking time frame is mostly depending on the location of the gorilla group that you have been assigned to track. This can also depend on the gorilla’s movements, where they spent the earlier night or the movements of the trekkers like some people may move at a slow pace yet others may be physically fit enough to trek through the forest in search for the gorilla.

Things Included In A Gorilla Permit

To enter some of the national parks in Uganda, one is required to pay entrance fees to access the park, but if you paid for a gorilla trekking permit, there is no need to pay entry fees because the fees are catered for in Uganda permit price already. Therefore, after paying a gorilla trekking permit, you shall not pay entrances fees in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park as well as in Mghinga gorilla national park. A gorilla permit in Bwindi forest also includes the ranger and security fees which you are assured of while in Bwindi forest.
