To trek mountain gorillas in Buhoma sector you need to have secured a gorilla permit in advance and this is issued out by Uganda Wildlife Authority to persons above the age of 15 years old at a fee of $700 foreign non-residents, $600 foreign residents, and shs250,000 East African citizens. The gorilla trekking in Buhoma sector is done among 5 habituated gorilla families which are Mubare gorilla family, Rushengura gorilla family, Katwe gorilla family, Habinyanja gorilla family, and Muyambi gorilla family.

On day of gorilla trekking in Buhoma sector, tourists are expected to be at the briefing point early in the morning to get briefed about the rules and regulations of the trekking activity from the rangers. It’s from here that the trekkers area grouped not exceeding 8 people and the ranger guides lead them into the jungle through different park trails. When the mountain gorillas are found, the trekkers are given 1 hour to around them as they lean about their habits, watch them do daily activities and take photos.
