In the northern parts of Bwindi impenetrable forest national park is where the Buhoma sector is found. Gorilla trekking started in this sector in 1993 with only one habituated gorilla family known as the Mubare gorilla family. Then later other families habituated and these include; Habinyanja, Rushegura, Mumbai, and Katwe, they all opened for tourism. Each gorilla group is trekked by 8 people every day. This means that every day Buhoma sector has 40 gorilla permits. But you are advised to book your gorilla permit in advance like 3 months back because at Uganda Wildlife Authority, gorilla permits are issued at first come first serve. It goes at 700USD for foreign nonresidents per person, $600 for foreign residents, and 250,000 Ugandan shillings for East African citizens per person per trek. This gorilla permit allows you to spend one hour interacting with mountain gorillas and finding a gorilla family takes 2-6 hours.  Please note, when you’re traveling to Uganda for gorilla trekking try to carry the right gear like a rain jacket, hiking boots, long-sleeved shirts/trousers, hat, sunglasses, energy-giving snacks, insect repellents, first aid kit, a camera with extra batteries and a pair of binoculars and a walking stick will be provided at your lodge or the starting point. It is very important to note that, tourists below 15 years of age are not allowed to trek.
