You can get to Lake Mutanda Resort from Kampala/Entebbe using Masaka-Mbarara-Kabale- Kisoro and then to Lake Mutanda taking 9-18 hours. Travelers from Kigali can access Lake Mutanda resort using the Cyanika border in Kabale which takes about 4-5 hours. You can also travel using air transport from Entebbe international airport or Kajjansi airstrip to Kasese airstrip in just 2 hours and from here you can drive to the lodge by road taking a few hours.

Activities to engage in while having a stay at Lake Mutanda resort

Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga national park and Bwindi impenetrable forest national park

While staying at Lake Mutanda resort, one can go for gorilla trekking activities in either Mgahinga national park or Bwindi impenetrable forest national park. The gorilla trekking activities allow tourists to be around mountain gorillas for a maximum of 1 hour as they learn about their habits, watch them do daily activities, and take photos. While staying at lake mutanda, you will need to wake up early in the morning and join other trekkers at the briefing centers where you will be taught about the rules and regulations of the gorilla trekking activity, and from here, each group not exceeding 8 will be led by ranger guides who will take them through different trails of the park. During the search, you will have opportunities of meeting different primates, birds, buffaloes, elephants, giant forest hogs, and different tree species. On finding the mountain gorillas, the trekkers will be given a maximum of 1 hour to be around mountain gorillas taking photos, learning their habits, and watching them do daily activities like breastfeeding, patrolling, and hunting among others.

Spending 1 hour with golden monkey in Mgahinga national park

Golden monkeys are endangered beautiful primates only found in Mgahinga national park in Uganda. Golden monkey trekking is the second most done activity in this park and it requires one to have a valid golden monkey trekking permit that is got from Uganda Wildlife Authority. Guests at Lake Mutanda Resort will have to wake up in the morning and join other trekkers at the briefing center where they will be taught about the dos and don’ts of golden monkey trekking and from here the ranger guides will lead the group to the bamboo vegetation to look for these primates. while looking for the golden monkeys, there are chances of meeting animals like giant forest hogs, bush pigs, elephants, birds, and different vegetation covers. After finding the mountain gorillas, you will be given 1 hour to be around the golden monkeys as you learn about their habits, watch them do daily activities, and take photos.

Batwa cultural trail

Batwa cultural trail is one of the things you shouldn’t miss out on while staying at Lake Mutanda resort. The Batwa cultural trail is led by the Batwa people who take you around the forest showing you how they used to stay happily in the forest, hunt small animals using bows and arrows, make fire using sticks, use plants as local medicine, and how they used to gather fruits and collect honey for food. You will get entertained by the locals through traditional dances and drama and you can support them by buying some of their crafts.

Hiking (Muhabura, Sabyinyo, and Gahinga) in Mgahinga national park

While staying at lake mutanda resort, you can decide to hike any of the mountains found within the park and the options are mountain Muhabura, mountain Gahinga, and mountain Sabyinyo. Hiking any of the mountains takes you through different vegetation covers, mountain animals like the buffaloes, elephants, giant forest hogs, birds among others.
