Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge is located in Nkuringo sector in the southern part of DR Congo and can be accessed by road transport from Kampala – Masaka – Mbarara – Kabale taking you about 8 – 9 hours’ drive. Tourists heading to Nkuringo Bwindi gorilla lodge from Kigali city can access the lodge by using Katuna border or Cyanika border in only 4-5 hours. You can as well take chattered flights from Entebbe international airport or Kajjansi airstrip to Kisoro airstrip taking you only 2 hours.

Activities to do during your stay at Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge

Gorilla trekking

Gorilla trekking is one of the activities tourists can do while having a stay at Nkuringo Bwindi gorilla lodge. The lodge is located near the park headquarters in Nkuringo where gorilla trekking activities start from. Tourists at Nkuringo Bwindi gorilla lodge will need to wake up early and make it to the sector offices by 8 am to attend a briefing. During the briefing, the trekkers are taught about the dos and don’ts of the gorilla trekking activity after which range guides lead them to the jungle to search for habituated mountain gorillas. during the search, the trekkers have opportunities of meeting different park animals such as chimpanzees, elephants, buffaloes, giant forest hogs, monkeys, birds, and tree species. after hours of looking for the endangered mountain gorillas and finding them, the trekkers are given a maximum of 1 hour to be around them as they learn about their habits, watch them do daily activities like hunting and breastfeeding, and take photos.

Gorilla habituation Experience

Gorilla habituation experience is another amazing activity tourists having a stay at Nkuringo Bwindi gorilla lodge can take part in. Gorilla habituation is a unique activity in Africa only done in this sector and Rushaga among 2 gorilla families of Bushaho and Bikingi. Just like gorilla trekking, gorilla habituation starts with a briefing where trekkers are taught about the dos and don’ts of the habituation activity after which a group of 4 people lead by armed rangers, researchers, conservationists, and trackers head to the jungle to look for the mountain gorilla that is undergoing habituation. During the search, the trekkers have opportunities of meeting different park animals, birds, and tree species but on finding the mountain gorillas family the trekkers are given a maximum of 4 hours to be with mountain gorillas while making them get used to human presence, learn their habits as they take photos.
