1-Day safari to Nairobi Giraffe Center

per person

This 1-day safari to the giraffe center in Nairobi is magical. Most have taken it to be a destination for children, but it has much to offer for visitors of all age groups. The giraffe center is managed by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife and since its inception, it has encouraged and increased the population of the rare Rothschild’s giraffe from the original nuclear power plant, which came from the area around Soy in western Kenya. Children are also educated on the conservation of animals.

The Giraffe Centre is the public side of Giraffe Patch, so if you stay there, you’ll be able to see the giraffes from your breakfast table or even your bedroom window. If Giraffe Manor is unavailable, the AFEW Giraffe Centre provides a worthwhile alternative. You will be able to get some of the shots of the giraffe. The graceful, slow-motion giraffes push their massive heads through to be fed the pellets you’re given to hand them, and you’ll get some fantastic mug photos from the giraffe-level observation tower (note that the viewing platform faces west, so be prepared for the lighting). There are many gentle warthogs nearby, as well as a forested 95-acre (40-hectare) nature reserve across the road, which is a good spot for birding and is very interesting for visitors who want to get up close and personal with the giraffes.

Activities that you can do during your 1-day safari to Nairobi Giraffe Center

Yes, after you have arrived at the Giraffe Center in Nairobi, you will first pay the entrance fees with the help of the guide, and later you will go for the interactive story telling about the giraffe center and learn how much the endangered mountain gorillas are in danger. You will also get a chance to feed the giraffes by asking the staff to give you some of the food so that you can feed the animals. The pellets that are given to the giraffes involve dirt and supplements since the giraffes are found to eat the leaves. Feeding the animals is so wonderful and fun, and thus please come and enjoy this wonderful safari activity, which is so very interesting.

Most of the visitors have been pictured placing the pellets in their lips and coming closer to the animals (giraffes) for the nice photo moments. After taking several photographs with these magnificent creatures, you may visit the warthogs (Pumba) and tortoises, shop for souvenirs, or have a bite at the café. Remember to take a wonderful walk in the natural sanctuary across the center before returning to Nairobi. You’ll find some native flora, birds, and pleasant walking routes where you may spend as much time as you like.

More about the Giraffe Center

The Giraffe Center has become so popular as the natural education center that it has educated several visitors, especially the students that flock to the center throughout the year. The African Fund for the Endangered Wildlife of Kenya was founded in the year 1979 by the late Jock Leslie-Melville, who was a Kenyan citizen of British descent. They founded the Giraffe Centre after learning about the Rothschild Giraffe’s suffering. A giraffe subspecies that can only be found in East Africa’s grasslands.

The Nairobi Giraffe Center features facilities that are well maintained and these consist of the raised feeding platform that enables visitors to stand high and face-to-face with the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe. Some of these facilities include the simple cafe, gift shop, and small auditorium. You can as well visit the natural sanctuary that is established and found across the road and it includes the Giraffe center entrance fees.

The Giraffe Centre is an animal lovers’ paradise located in Karen, about 16 kilometers from Nairobi’s Central Business District. The initiative began in 1979 with the goal of protecting and promoting the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe subspecies via education. This location became one of our favorite attractions in Nairobi, not only because we were able to get as close to the giraffes as possible, but also because we kissed a lot of them! 1-Day safari to Nairobi Giraffe Center can be extended to other destinations like Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage for visitors with extra days.
