The chimp trekking briefing in Nyungwe Forest National Park usually takes place at the Uwinka visitors center in Nyungwe Forest before the actual chimp activity. The chimpanzee trekking briefing is done to make sure that the visitors get all the instructions to follow when in the jungle trying to follow the chimpanzees. The Nyungwe Forest National Park is so rich in diversity that it features more than 200 tree species, more than 300 bird species, and several flowering plants. Apart from these, the forest also has more than 13 species of primates, and these include, among other things, the red-tailed monkeys, silver monkeys, olive baboons, grey-cheeked mangabeys, vervet monkeys, and Ruwenzori Colobus monkeys, among other species. Some of the primates will be seen as you trek with the chimpanzees.
Once the briefing has been conducted, you will be divided into different groups depending on the number of people present at the briefing center. One of the chimpanzee trekking groups will commence at Uwika center, and another group will start trekking chimpanzees at Cyamudongo. For this, you will need a driver to drive you to the starting point. The ranger guide of the park will be in constant communication with the trackers that go into the forest early in the morning to track the chimpanzees before you, the visitors. When the trackers see the gorillas, they will communicate with the ranger guide, who will lead you to the forest where the chimpanzees have been communicating. Once you have seen the chimpanzees, you will spend only one hour with them, where you will be able to learn more about their feeding habitats, take photos, and feel free to ask any questions that you want.
