How to access to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in Uganda? Bwindi is one of the top destinations in Uganda with a highest number of mountain gorilla families in Africa for gorilla trekking experiences. The park is popularly known as a home to the unique mountain gorillas, a lot of bird species as well as beautiful views. Bwindi impenetrable forest national park takes about 463.6 kilometers and it can be reached through road or air transport. You’re responsible for booking your international ticket from your home country up to Entebbe international airport which is the main airport in Uganda and thereafter you will be picked by Africa Adventure Vacations tour guide to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park and then get back to Entebbe.

Bwindi impenetrable can also be accessed through Rwanda as it is close to Bwindi forest and it takes about 4 hours. When you are from Kampala through Mbarara using Masaka road, you will take a maximum of 8-9 hour drive. Then from Kabale to the southern parts of Bwindi forest, it is just a 1 to 2-hour drive. You are advised to use a 4×4 vehicle during the wet season when using a road join Butogoto which covering about 17 kilometers from the Buhoma entrance gate. Daily buses are also available from Kampala the capital city of Uganda to Butogota through Rukungiri and Kihiihi.  Bwindi impenetrable forest national park is easy to access by road transport because after getting out of the bus, you use a tax which is just like 17 kilometers to Buhoma.

This can also be accessed by air transport, on your arrival at Entebbe international airport which is the main airport in Uganda. You will meet our professional tour guide and take you to Kajjansi airstrip to catch up with Aerolink airline to Kihihi in kisoro or Buhoma town and this takes like 1 hour from the south sides of Bwindi impenetrable forest national park. Bwindi impenetrable forest national park consists of three airfields that are at Kayonza, Kihiihi, and Nyakabande which are found in Kisoro.  There is also Mishaya, Nkuringo, and Nshongi for the trekkers who are taking track of gorillas in the southern region.

Routes on how to access to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in Uganda.

Kampala- Ntungamo-Rukungiri-Kihihi-Buhoma.

This is a suitable route from Kampala to Rukungiri while on a tarmac road. It takes about 390kilometer.

Kampala-Kabale-Ruhija-Buhoma.

This route covering an area of 95kilometers square which takes about a 3-4 hour drive. Tourists are advised to use a 4WD vehicle that can manage to take you through Ruhiija.

Kampala-Kabale-Kanungu-Buhoma.

Here, it is a tarmac road and is the highway to Kabale which covering 414kilometers and is approximately a 5-6 hour drive. Kanungu and Kanyantorogo is a murram road which is about 120kilometers and takes a 4-5 hour drive through using a 4WD vehicle.

Mweya- Kihihi-Buhoma.

As you’re heading to Bwindi forest, you will go through Ishasha and get a chance to see climbing lions, various bird species, monkeys, and among others as you’re on the road.  From Bwindi to Ishasha sector is about 64 kilometers while from Mweya to Bwindi forest, it takes over 160kilometers.

Kampala-Kabale-Nkuringo.

It covers a distance of 105 km from Kabale town through the mountainous murram road.  After reaching Kisoro town, you are advised to sleepover from there and you continue with your journey the next day to Kabale to Nkuringo which covering a distance of 80kilometers.  Kisoro road takes is about a 1-2 hour drive through murram road and visitors are also recommended to use a 4WD.

You will be using a vehicle around the Park, as there are no roads into the forest that are traveled on foot because the trails take you through the steep and thick vegetation.  Or you can use a walking stick which provided from the park headquarters and use that to move around the park.

After reaching Bwindi forest, you will see a lot of bird species, insects, trees that are old than 250000 years, plants, flowers plus the endangered mountain gorillas and enjoy one of a wonderful experience you will never forget in your lifetime.

After gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park, you can also go to other destinations in south western region of Uganda like game parks which include Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Mburo national park or visit the forest parks such as Kibale Forest National Park which is a best place for Chimpanzee trekking tours, Mgahinga gorilla national park for a golden monkey tracking.
